Looking for someone who emmigrated after 1901
« on: Thursday 24 November 05 18:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi There

we are looking for one of the final pieces of the jigsaw puzzle that is our family tree!

Herbert Tivey born Burton on Trent Staffordshire England 1878, there are rumours that he went to Canada, but we have not found any proof of this. He is in the 1901 census in Burton with his mum and dad after this we have no idea where he went apart from family rumours

Can anyone help?

Cheers
Jan

Jan,

I know there are searchable databases for this because I have successfully found family who emigrated to Canada in the 1920s.

I remember it is very hard to find in google, but I have it written down somewhere. I will dig it out for you and let you know

There are NO indexed ships passenger lists for the time period you want. National Archives in Canada holds all microfilmed lists and you have to order the film in, then go through it screen by screen looking for your name of interest. The ships are on the reels in chronological order so as long as you have a month and year at a minimum, it's not too bad.

You can find the
details at this URL

           http://www.archives.ca/02/020202_e.html

If you want to order filmed passenger lists (remember they aren't indexed!), a  list of NAC microfilm numbers for passenger lists to Canada 1865-1922 can be found at

http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_can1865.shtml

If you want to try your luck searching transcribed ships passenger lists online,  passenger lists for Ships to Canada after 1865 are freely available at

http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tocanp05.shtml

You can also try TheShipsList.com at http://www.theshipslist.com/  They have been indexing
arrivals from Newspapers and have many passenger lists online

Have you looked for Herbert in 1911? See http://allcensusrecords.com/canada/ for some online 1911 indexes to census.

Do you have any better idea of where he settled - Ontario, Quebec, BC.....???
