Just as a point of interest, all the records of Birth, Marriages & Deaths were held in the upstairs regions of St. Catharine's House, corner of Aldwych & Kingsway & when I first started researching my family about 1988 I had a query on an entry & was allowed upstairs while they tried to find it.  I was only allowed into a small office to wait, not allowed anywhere near where the records were kept.  It was some years later all records were transfered to Southport, where we have to apply for any copies of entries we need.
