Family Tree Maker Backward Compatibility
« on: Monday 28 November 05 18:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have family tree already created with FTM version 6, which I started about 6 years ago.

I paid about £60 at the time and the package included 16 CDs of which 15 were useless, all except the installation CD.   I do like the programme however and I did a lot of research at the time including visits to the GRO in Edinburgh, so I have a lot of info in FTM version 6.

Obviously we have come a long way in 6 years and there is now a wealth of information available online.  I would like to pick up where I left off and try to expand my tree.

I have seen FTM 2005 UK Version available on Ebay for about £10 including postage.  IS this the same FTM (Broderbund) and will it be compatible with my version 6 files?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Axel

The files should update OK

Be careful of the low cost versions af FTM that are available. It may be a trial version and not fully functional, also be aware that 2006 is available.

FTM 2006 single disk update is priced around £26 as a guide

Hope this is of some use

Regards

Chris

Thy their website.  I had the free starter edition of FTM2005 and upgraded to the full deluxe version online for $29.99 (it cost me about £19).

Hi Axel

I upgraded from FTM 7 to FTM10 no problems at all.  Just carried on as normal, and yes most of the CD's are not relevant to the UK lines at all or even much on the European.  However this is the only one I have used for the last 7 years, did try PAF5 as need it for a conversion file only.
