Only Hannah Wallop in Wilts/Somerset in 1841

St Jas Parade, Bath (St James)
Hannah Walop 3 born out of county
HO107/969/3 pg 15

She is listed as a separate household on her own  ??? within a house of multiple occupation, no-one else with same surname so not very helpful for family. Who was with in 51?
No definite for William - do you have a birthplace
from the 51 census?
Cheers Jan ;)

My gg Grandparents and ggg Grandmother were also living in St James Parade, Bath in 1841!  My ggg Grandfather was at sea.  Maybe there was some naval connection (Royal or Merchant) with St James Parade and Hannah was being looked after by relatives as her father was at sea?

Something like that seems probable Al, only trouble is there are about a dozen people in the house in groups or singles so no idea who might have been looking after little Hannah ::). Here they all are in case one of them turns up later somewhere.

Hannah's mother was called Susannah according to the 1851 census information from the other thread.  Could Susannah LINN actually have been Susannah WALLOP but incorrectly grouped with Mr LINN rather than with Hannah by the enumerator?

Hi Allan
Susannah is dittoed with the Ashleys although not grouped with them - she is a separate household as is Hannah- but seems likely both might be a mistake. Is Susannah the right age to be Susannah Wallop?

Jan ;)

It looks like she is!  From the other thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,109696.msg476101.html#msg476101 Susannah was 42 years old in 1851 so she would have been recorded as 30 in 1841 (rounded down).  Also according to the 1851, Susannah was born in Bath.  Was she "born in county" in the 1841 census?

Another theory:  Susanna was in fact Hannah's step-mother.

Look at this IGI (Extracted) marriage record:

Samuel WALLOP
Sarah BROOM
05 MAY 1834   Castle Combe, Wiltshire, England

Not sure how this helps us work out how the sampler got to New Zealand though ???

Just read the sampler thread - fascinating :D

Don't think it does but have looked for Samuel Wallop in 41 anyway and no sign of him in Wilts or Somerset, no Sarah either but she might be dead. Susanna Ashley is born in county so good bet for step-mum (in a house of tailors too, like Samuel). Will go and have a look for William. Who cares if this is not strictly necessary ;D
