James, Sara,
I can tell you what I know about the Huntingdon side of the family which I discovered when researching my family tree.
William Frederick Huntingdon was born in about 1880 in Attercliffe – then the centre of steel making in Sheffield. He had two sisters; Isabel born about 1883 and Marion b. 1896 and a brother George Thomas born 1870 (this is taken from the census).
Their mother was Jane Huntingdon, I’ve found no trace of a marriage for Jane and her name remains the same on all census records. My late aunt was a great source of information when researching the family tree. Her comment about the Huntingdons was : ’Funny how none of ‘em looked like each other.’ I’ve haven’t traced any birth certificates yet to see if any fathers were named. Jane’s parents were George Huntingdon (snr) b.1803 Upper Langwith, Chesterfield d.1873 in Sheffield and Anne Huntingdon (nee Marsh) b.1802 in Darnall d.1866 in Sheffield. George (snr’s) parents were Thomas Huntingdon and Elizabeth Wagstaff Married 8 April 1790 Upper Langwith, Derbyshire.
As you know, William Frederick (shown as Crane Driver on 1901 census) married Winfred Emily Knight in 1907 and they emigrated to Canada. Marion married Harry James Wise. Isabel married Percy Gibson and they all emigrated to Ontario, Canada then to (this is only anecdotal) Buffalo, New York?
The remaining brother George Thomas stayed in Sheffield and married Martha Ann Leary – my grandmother’s parents.
Sara,
if your grandfather is George Arthur HUNTINGDON born 1903 then he is my grandmother’s brother (along with Thomas William and John Edward) and thus the nephew of William Frederick Huntingdon.
I know Winifred kept in touch with my grandmother – I have a number of photos and letters dating from the 40s and 50s.
