Its the Pettit name I'm searching for in Kent
« on: Sunday 05 September 04 20:27 BST (UK) »
i have done well just searching on line when I started I wasn't even sure what my Grandmothers name was !  :-\  Well now I know it was Florence Davis she Married Sydney Thomas Pettit  in Chatham in 1906. from then on they lived in Hawthorn Road in Sittingbourne. His Father was Thomas Redman Pettit Who Married Susan Ann Trowell  on Christmas Day 1880 in the Paradise Chapel in Milton Regis  ( How romantic !) Her Parents names were James Trowell  and Ellen Jeffery. So Thomas Redmans Father was Edward George born in Margate in 1835 . I need to find any thing about him as I'm stuck at this point. Hes other sons were David Richard, Ernest  and Osborn George  all living at 11 Dover Street Sittingbourne in 1881 census. Can any one Help with my search ?   Please  ;D

Hello Max

I replied to one of your other postings bout this family, but I didn't realise at the time you had the 1881 census.

I have found some of the family on the 1891 census so here goes!

I have  David Richard, living with his mother Louisa, still at
11 Dover Street. Sittingbourne He was by this time a Engine
Smith. Don't know where Louisa was in 1881.

Ernest was working as a grocers assistant, and living as a
boarder at Biggin Street. Dover.

Osborn was a mate on board a barge called "Spring" it'
registration No was 55150, and it was a 40 tonner. The master and his wife lived on board also, there name was
Wooley. The barge was moored at Town End Wharf ,Kingston
Surrey.

I cannot find Thomas, or Edward, but will try again. I have found the above people, by searching, and spelling the name
in various ways. ie Pettit Petitt and Pettitt.

Did you know that the mother of the family was called Louisa?
She wasn't with them in 1881, so she may have been visiting other members of the family. I forgot to note her age in 1891, and where she was born, if you need that info, or any other I can help you with,  please contact me.

Kind regards

JeannieR

Hi Max
just a thought. Is it at all possible the folder family members may have been born in another county.
I ask because I am searching for my family in Sussex and ran across this in 1851 census for Mayfield in Sussex.

104
Fletching Street
Pettit, Thomas
Head   Farm labourer   1795   Heathfield, Sussex

      Pettit, Martha
Wife       1807   Mayfield, Sussex

      Pettit, Ann
Daughter       1837   Mayfield, Sussex

      Pettit, Robert
Son       1842   Mayfield, Sussex

      Pettit, Samuel
Son       1847   Mayfield, Sussex

It is such an unusual name i thought it might be worth a look.
