Pear Tree Cottage, MIDDLEWICH
« on: Thursday 01 December 05 16:32 GMT (UK) »
I recently visited Middlewich to find the place where my late mother Emily Buckley lived until 1943. This was Pear Tree Cottage, St Annes Rd, Middlewich. It appears on the 1901 census occupied as Pear Tree House by one of the family.
My wife and I walked down the whole road , but could not find the cottage , we enquired at the local council offices but there was nobody who was able to help. It is possibile that the cottage ajoined a market garden as my grandfather was a market gardener. It therefore has probably been developed for housing.

Can anbody help ? Is there anywhere I could find out what might have happened to the property ?

Many Thanks
Peter

I'm very surprised the Council couldn't help Peter  ???  Did you try the Planning Department.  If the site of the cottage has been developed, they would have the original plans of the land.

What a shame, when these old cottages are knocked down...all that history gone.

Kind regards

A search on a2a.org.uk for - peartree NEAR20 middlewich (this means for peartree within 20 words of middlewich) shows that there was a peartree field in the area in the 1600s which was subject to some disputes.  If this is the same place then some history has certainly been lost.

Hi all,
Thanks, for the replies. Unfortunately we did not have much time in Middlewich to pursue more than a casual enquiry. I think Su's comment about planners would probably be the best approach so I'll follow that up.
It is fascinating to note that there is some early mention that might indicate an old dwelling or field.

Kind Regards
Peter
