Hi Raju,
Thanks for looking. At least I now know that he was just an employee and not a Company Director.
Thanks

Hi Romilly,

You said that the late Denys Pegg was Pearl Assurance's Archivist before he passed away; I'm wondering who he might have passed the archive material onto?

Any thoughts?

Hi Wombat,

Nice to hear from you on here.

No, I don't know what happened to Denys Pegg's material. I do however now definately know that The National Archives at Kew don't hold the Pearl's Archives.

However, after a lengthy and exhaustive search for the Archives of the Pearl, - I think that I have now located them...

They are now located with: Pearl Assurance, Manasty Road, Orton Southgate, Peterborough PE2 6UP.

Needless to say, I am thrilled that I am now back on track with this!

Best Wishes, Romilly :)

Raju, - I hope that all is well with you in Christchurch NZ? My elder sister also lives there, and so I know how awful the whole thing is:-( All Best Wishes to you too, and thank you for your help.

Hi all,
I have been watching this topic too and will give the Pearl Assurance archive a go too as my Fred Smith is down on the 1911 Census as working for Pearl Assurance.
Thanks
 for the useful info

Sad to say...but still haven't heard back from Pearl Assurance, - despite having written to them on the 29th March 2011:-(((

So disappointing...

Please be advised that the Pearl Assurance Company which was based in High Holborn, moved to Thorpe Wood in Peterborough in 1976, however subsequently moved to a different Peterborough location in the 1990's.

Whilst the name Pearl still exists for our Pearl Assurance Limited policyholders www.pearl.co.uk, the holding company is now Phoenix Group www.thephoenixgroup.com.  The High Holborn building is now the Chancery Court Hotel www.chancerycourthotel.com

Many thanks for your reply.

I did eventually recieve an email from the Pearl Centre, to say that they couldn't help with my enquiry.

Sadly, although my first letter and documents, (which I sent by registered mail) are shown as having been recieved and logged by the Post Room at Lynchwood, - they appear to have then been lost:-(

My second letter, which I sent in June was apparantly recieved.

I am most unhappy that copies of my Birth and Marriage Certificates, along with other family BMD's and photographs...are unaccounted for.

Romilly ???

Hi Re Denys Pegg and the Pearl Assurance Company. In 1984 I met Denys at Holborn Denys found my Grandfather Charles Ellingford in the "Insurance Gem" he also supplied me with the 100 year anniversary book in this is a list of the original company directors and a list from 1873 to 1963.
My great grandfather was James Gilding  (his mother was Sarah Pegg not certain if any relation to Denys) was chairman 1873 James Roll (Sir) was chairman 1882 he was the son of Nathaniel Roll and Jemima Gilding, James Gilding's sister.
There is also a photo of the staff taken about 10 years after the Pearl started, it's a very large group and most are named included are : J Roll, C Gilding, J Gilding, in the 1870 my other great grandfather Alfred Martin went north with James Roll and others to open up Westmoreland. If you have a relative that might appear in the photo let me know.

Hi Raju,

Both my Great Grandfather, Ernest Henry Warren, (1881-1919) & my Great Great Grandfather, William James Warren, (1857- Unknown) worked for the Company throughout their working lives.

Are there any Warrens on the List please?

Romilly.
