Hi Lyn,

Congratulations - I've not posted an image yet!

Hmmmmm!  It's certainly nothing like the 'L' in Labourer or Lewer (those instances of 'L' don't start with a curl).  And nothing like the (rather cramped) 'S' in Spinster.  Perhaps an 'F'?  But I wouldn't discount 'S' despite the 'S' in Spinster.

Does the initial appear in his name in the column before the ages?  If so, is it exactly the same?

Just as well you didn't ask the name of the Registrar!

JAP
PS: I learned something.  I wondered whether 'intituled' was a misprint - but looked it up and found not; " 'Intitule' - To give a designation or title to (a legislative act, for example)".

Hi Jap

The Registrar! Well yeah that would be another mission. lol.

The initial doesn't appear before the ages.
This William ? Prier is a witness and i am assuming the father of the bride.
Being long time residents of Ohariu i thought i might have come across more info on the family. Possibly this is a William Smale Prier of whom i'm trying to track  more info on .

Hi Lyn

Before I saw the additional image I was sure it was an S or an L.  I would eliminate the L now.  I agree with what JAP says about the S in Spinster being nothing like the letter in question, but I still think its an S.

Best wishes

Sorry Lyn!

Of course he was a witness - I must have been having a senior moment :'(

Like Ticker, I'd rule out 'L' - and certainly wouldn't discount 'S'.

But I guess I can't say that it is an 'S' - just that it could be.

Good luck,

JAP

Hi Lyn

I notice that the actual document is a certified copy of the entry, in other words, registrar's interpretation of the actual signature.

You would need to look at the original entry, to decipher the signature.

Cheers
