REGAN surname Co Cork
« on: Friday 02 December 05 13:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi there
I am trying to get further info about Timothy REGAN born c1817 Co Cork. He was married to Catherine Macnamara born c1814.
They had 2 children born in Ireland, Daniel REGAN born 1840 and Ellen REGAN born 1844 at Timoleague.
I am trying to locate Ellen baptism records at the moment.
I am told that her father Timothy was one of 4 brothers who came to England from Co Cork. Timothy came to England around 1845 and was employed as a shipwright at HM Dockyard, Woolwich. (They then had further children in Woolwich, Hanora 1847, Michael 1850 and James Stephen 1852)

If anyone's REGAN tree has a Timothy around this date would be very grateful to hear from you.

Many thanks
Debbie

I have a Denis REGAN about 1818 who came to London about 1846 with wife Mary KELLY? and children Charles, Mary, Catherine, Ellen + Timothy and Johanna born in Southwark. I wonder if they could be related to your Timothy?

Could be a possibility but can think of no way or proving it or finding evidence to back it up.
All I know is a brief family story is that 4 REGAN brothers came into this country together from Ireland, but no further information as to when and where they settled.

Thanks for replying  :)
Best Regards
Debbie

Thanks Debbie

I'll give you the dates and we can think on it. Denis c1818-1887 and Mary had six Children:

Charles about 1839 Ireland
Mary about 1845 Ireland
Catherine about 1846 Ireland married Patrick Buckley in 1866
Ellen 7 Aug 1848 Southwark married James WIX in 1874
Timothy c1850-c1881
Johanna (Anna) 30 July 1852 Southwark married William Wright in 1872.

This would indicate that they left Ireland between about 1846 and Aug 1848.

Hi there
Thanks for that.
My Timothy REGAN who I'm hoping would be a brother of DENIS was born approx 1817 and married Catherine MCNAMARA (don't know when)
Their children as follows-
Daniel b.1840 Ireland
Ellen b. 1845 Timoleague, Ireland
Hanora b 1848 Woolwich
Michael b. 1850 Woolwich
James Stephen b. 1852 Woolwich.

Timothy was a Shipwright working for HM Dockyard, Woolwich, so I'm guessing this might have been his background when working in Ireland?
As you can see from their childrens dates of birth it places them arriving in London between 1845-1848.

Best Regards
Debbie

Thanks again Debbie

I can see Timothy on the 1851 census at 27 Eustace Place and on the 1861 census at 23 Joseph Street. There are possible relations Florence REGAN and John REGAN near but they appears to be from Limerick not Co Cork.
I have a Timothy Regan god parent to Timothy BUCKLEY in 1880 but it is probably the child of Denis and not your Timothy.
