I'm afraid we have different James.  Mine was James Lally, born in the 1790s and his son, James and/or Patrick who came to London from Galway before 1847.  His life was not as romantic as your James'.  Mine was a gardener, then ran a mushroom farm in Kensington and ended up in Kensington workhouse.
But thanks for your reply.

Stephen:

What a shame there isn't a connection. Good luck with your research.

James Lally is my 3 x G Grandfather and he & Mary had 5 children that I have found. As this is an old post, I wondered if you have any more info further back. I have only just started to look at the Lally family properly, but are you descended from the tailor from Lewes by some chance ? I come from Sussex originally (my family are still there), but my G Grandmother Anna Bridget married Thomas Harper in Westminster in 1898. Their children were born in Wandsworth and my father in Brixton. We moved to Sussex when I was a child.
I would be interested to hear from you. Mary

I am not sure if my Lallys are relatives as I haven't researched this side extensively yet

My Great Grandmother was Mary Lally
She was born to Patrick Lally of Kilchreest Loughrea and Bridget Calday (more likely a spelling error of Gildea or a similar name) in 1848 - they married in Loughrea on feb 18 1846

Patrick's paerents were Patrick Lally and Bridget Farrell who married in Loughrea also on April 02 1815

The Patrick who married in 1815 might be a relative of Mary's and my 3xgt grandfather James. Unfortunately, we don't seem able to find any information about him before he joined the army so there's no way of telling I'm afraid.

In my searches I found another family tree that discounts my Patrick's parents - although I was sure they were Patrick and Bridget Farrell from my searches and findings.
I have been in correspondence with a lady who is adamant this Patrick LALLY is her ancestor!!
So I am not ruling it out completely but there is a possibility the Patrick Lally who is my ancestor has different parents - just for the record!!

I still believe that he was from Gortnamanach, Kilchreest, Loughrea
