Hi Al

I have been looking at the directories again but no luck. In the 1820s and before they were small books concentrating on Nottingham. There were small entries for Retford, Southwell, Newark etc but nothing for villages. There are some more on fiche that I will look at but I won't hold my breath!

I did wonder about a will.........

Hi Jane,

Thanks for trawing through the directories for me.  I'm getting the feeling that the White's directory from 1832 with 2 pages dedicated to Beckingham and all those details on the school and principal residents was pretty unique!

I wondered about a will too but I'm not too sure how and where they are kept pre 1854.  Only yesterday I asked a Rootchatter who was offering to look up wills post 1854 if he could find one for George & Susanna's youngest son Robert (my gg Grandfather) who died in London in 1892.

If you do manage to get the parish records for Beckingham out again, I'd still be very interested to know if George was in fact christenned in Beckingham and if there are any more of my ancestors lurking there!

Many, many thanks for what you've done so far, I highly appreciate it.

Best Regards,

Al

Hi Al

I looked through the baptisms for Beckingham 1758-1780 no entry for George Curtis.

Hi Jane,

Thanks so much for looking.  I guess my George was not born in Beckingham after all.  Looks like I've come to the end of the line on this branch of the family :(
Thanks again for all your help, Best Wishes for a prosperous 2006.

Regards,

Al
