1881 census look up - Buchanan - Killearn
« on: Saturday 03 December 05 01:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi guys

Can someone look up the following family for me? They will be at Boquhan House, Killearn.

Agnes B(ryce) Buchanan (would be about 61 - born Logie)
David Buchanan (would be about 31 - born Killearn.)

If anyone can follow this family (well David - as Agnes died in 1885) through 1891 and 1901 too it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Alex

Alex, do you know the Scottish expression 'he went to school with ma father's dug (dog)'?

It is something my Glasweigan father says if you ask him if he knows somebody ..

Gives me quite a funny feeling (yes, daft I know!) to realise that your children as found by Anne (hello bestest!!) really did go to school in Killearn with my gg grandfather - John Morrison and his brothers and sisters  :)

regards,

Lindsay

Hi

Thanks guys, yes I did have the children's details. My connection is with Thomas Bryce Buchanan (dead by 1858), his first wife Euphemia and him had a daughter, Mary. She married William Forbes. Their daughter Elizabeth Ritchie Forbes married Frederick William Tibbetts in Islington and their son Leonard Forbes Tibbetts was my partner's grandfather.

Wow, which of them was it who was at school with your gg granfather?

My only task now is to find William and Mary Forbes in 1861 in Scotland, have tried with no success  :'(

Thanks, Alex

Hi Alex, had a look on the 1861 for you but can't find any trace either ... do you know where they were in 1871?

Actually, I am just presuming that they were all at school together - they were are all born in roughly the same period range.  My 3G grandmother, Mary Stirling (and her family going back) came from Killearn, she married Alexander Morrison - had 9 children - and the Morrison family stayed in the area until at least 1922.

Hi LindseySiam

Well my Forbes family are in Islington London by 1871, but no sign of them there in 1861, I know their son William David Colin was born in Islington in 1865, but the two prior children, Helen Isabella and Margaret Euphemia (born 1857 and 1858 ish) were born in Milton and Blythswood areas of Glasgow. *sigh* I've tried looking in the Milton and Blythswood areas in 1861 but no sign...
