1841 Romford Essex Co. census Knapp family

My Knapp family lived in Romford where son William Knapp, the youngest of 9 children was b. 1834 in Romford and
presumably lived there in 1841. I would love to know what Knapp families are in the 1841 census in Romford and if possible which might be William's family. Thank you.  Sheri in Worthington, Ohio

Sorry, bad news I'm afraid  . No Knapp family or any other similar name in the 1841 index of Romford or nearby Hornchurch or Great Warley.

I also had a look in 1871 census to try and trace backwards. These are the only Knapps I could find born in Essex:

Samuel Knapp 16  Waltham Abbey, Essex, England Brother  St Paul Deptford  London   
Thomas J Knapp 27  Waltham Abbey, Essex, England Head  St Paul Deptford  London 

There seem to be a lot of Knapps who moved into the West Ham area by 1871 from other parts of London.

Thanks greatly for your help, Geoff. Although that is sad news. I know that William left  England,  and I had presumed Romford, in 1843. He was said to have been a stowaway travelling on a ship captained by a family friend. He sailed to Canada. Another family member tells me that originally he was supposed to go to Australia. Sheri

Doubt they are of any use, but you never know. 
It seems Knapp is a German name!

Thanks, Geoff.  I am glad that you found some even though they were a bit later. I will still need to entertain other possibilities including name change. Maybe there will be a christening record. Yes Knapp's came to America from both England and Germany as well as the Alsace area of France. Sheri
