When I got married in 1956 I bought a leather bound Bible for my family.   It starts off with my marriage and events related to that and after, I have not inserted any information prior to that date.   The date on the Bible is 1956 and so only appropriate to put in items after that date.

I do have Family History Books, leather bound which allows for all the family details to be entered in by hand.  They are rather nice and I think more appropriate.

Are family bibles available to buy today as they were in the good old days,(Leather bound with solid brass clasps etc.), because I like the idea of a solid bible that would withstand an armageddon!

Do a search for your local religious book shop, who specialise in religious and or Christian books if they don't provide them they will know who does.

Mine is leather and gold edged.   but the problem comes about what Bible to you want,  King James Version KJV.  or a Roman Catholic one which has more books in it. or any of the other versions that are available.  you don't want to end up with a Protestant one when you need the RC one.

As I bought mine in 1956 could not tell you exactly where to get one.  I expect you would have to pay a lot of money for a large leather bound one, even without clasps.

Mine cost in those days the equivalent of a months salary.

There was a shop near where I lived called Blackstone Books. They were a religious outlet, but have now closed down.  >:(

Ive just been to Makro and found 2 KJV White imitation leather family bibles for £9.99 each (No VAT!). Needless to say the same ones online were £34.99 each +£3.95 P&P.

So I bought them both. That was the last place I expected to find one!
