Traffic fatality - 1920's newspapers
« on: Sunday 11 December 05 20:41 GMT (UK) »
Are there any indexes for IOM newspapers in the 1920's ?  I am looking for an article from this decade regarding a member of the Ratcliffe family, a motor car and a horse (and buggy?) and a fatality.  I read the article as a child but have been unable to locate it among my fathers papers.  If the incident went to court would there be records available that I could search ?
IOM is new to me, any assistance re. where to look would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Viv C.

I have a list of names from a family prayerbook.
Elizabeth Jones 25 June 1774
Edward Jones 25 March 1776
Daniel Jones 18 October 1783          William Ransmore April 4 1769
Anno Ratcliffe 2 April 1793
Thomas Ratcliffe 29 May 1803
Charles Ratcliffe 15 August 1804
James Ratcliffe 15 December 1805
Merey Ratcliffe 20 December 1807
William Ratcliffe 1802/12?
Joseph Jones his book 1699
Elizabeth daughter of John and Elizabeth Ratcliffe b 21 September 1814
Jene Ratcliffe 1 November 1816
Which currently mean nothing to me !
also, Elizabeth Ratcliffe (23) m Benjamin Ogden(24) 22-8-1858 in Salford. Elizabeth is the daughter of Mary and Charles Ratcliffe.  Elizabeth was born in Salford but I don't know about Charles.

re newspaper indices - there are none for this period - tedious search on microfilm in Manx Museum Library is called for.
Try www.manxnotebook.com for various items re Island -  Radcliffe is a common Manx name as well as English
any thing with a Manx Connection

Thanks for the info re indices.  I'll go back to banging my head on the other side of the brick wall !!
The Radcliffes on the IOM were still corresponding with the Jones' in NZ in the 1920's.  The Jones' have the prayerbook with the names of both families in but I cannot link them up AARRGGHH !  The Jones' appear to have left IOM 1840/50ish or died out without issue.
