WILSON family enquiry -Drumkeeren
« on: Tuesday 13 December 05 04:13 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Mary WILSON who was married in New Zealand in 1868.  Her will states her birthplace as Drumker, Ireland which I believe likely to be Drumkeeren.  Her parents George and Mary WILSON may have been farmers. This is all I have to go on - anybody able to help?

Hei Lyndal,

I wonder why you have picked Drumkereen in Co. Fermanagh when no mention was made of Co. Fermanagh.  Have you had a look at all the
George Wilsons who are listed in Griffiths Valuation of Ireland 1848-64? http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php Use this site in conjunction with http://www.thecore.com/seanruad and you may be able to pinpoint George Wilson more accurately unless, of course, he was not a head of household.

All the best, Chris

Thanks very much Christopher.  No counties mentioned in her will at all so Drumker/Drumkeeran is all I have to go on for now.  One big fishing expedition!  I will certainly follow the line of enquiry you have suggested.  I am fairly new to on-line research and grateful for your help.
Kind regards
Lyndal

Lyndal and I are now collaborating on this family, and have established between the two of us that Mary Wilson was born in Letterkeen Drumrush, Drumkeeran in 1845.

I have found reference to a few Wilsons in Letterkeen through the Griffiths Valuation, also Tithe Applotment and Irish Flax Growers records, with a George present in those.

I believe I found Marys siblings all baptised in Tubrid with George and Mary as their parents.

Interestingly, there seems to be no record of marriages of the other children, nor deaths in the records I have for Tubrid. Would they have gone to another church ??

When Mary married in New Zealand it appeared she was not with her family, and checking online cemetery records for the country have not produced anyone with the names and ages as below.

George b 1842 s.o. George and Mary

Mary b 1845, d.o. George and not recorded…….grrrrrrrrrrr

James b 1847 s.o. George and Mary

Isabella b 1849 d.o. George and Mary

Sophia b 1852 d.o. George and Mary

Ann Jane b 1855 d.o. George and Mary

Margaret b 1860 d.o. George and Mary

Can someone help me work out where to look next please?

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

There are several George Wilsons around that age in 1901 census-
