1841 Lookup. Whickham/Gateshead area.

I am trying to ascertain if he is married to the above.

Unfortunately the 1841 census does not show relationships so unable to say if they were married. Have you found him in 1851 or perhaps if you could find his death cert it would give some information on that, couldn't find a marriage for him:

Found a marriage for William Battensby & Mary Postgate 24 Nov 1812 but she may have died before 1851 as I found William a widower living with grandson wife & child:-

William Battensby  83  Wdr   Shopkeeper  Durham, Billingham
William       "          28 g.son  Joiner               "       Whickham
Mary          "          24 g.dau      "    s wife   Cumberland Garrigill

The Whickham registers show that Mary Battensby was buried in Jan 1849.
I guess I will have to obtain a copy of the death cert to see if it provides anymore info.
