Help needed with Harper family in 1901!
« on: Tuesday 13 December 05 13:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to trace Susannah Maria and George John Harper and their family. They were married in 1895 in Alverstoke and had a child 1n 1907 at Landport, so I'm assuming they would have been in Hampshire at the turn of the century.

I believe Susannah was born about 1868 but am unsure about George.

I've followed the advice I've had off other members before and searched using as many alternatives as I can think of but have had no luck.

Can anyone help on where I should be looking?

Thanks,

Rachel

Hi Rachel

I assume it is the George John A HARPER and Susannah Maria SKINNER who married in 1895 (freebmd) - can you give us any details from the marriage certificate or any other source that might help locate them either forwards or backwards from the marriage?

Best wishes

Do you have a copy of this marriage certificate - it may tel us how old the groom was to try to trace his birth.  Also, it may give a different address to follow up in 1901.

OK here goes:

The Parish Church, Alverstoke, Southampton.

26th October 1895

George John Allan Harper 37 (or poss. 39), widower. Profession = tailor. Father = George John Harper, a butcher

Susannah Maria Skinner, 29 (or poss 27), spinster. Father = Edward William Skinner, a bandman.

I had quite a few certificates come in today and am feeling quite overwhelmed at the moment!  ;D
