RODEN (diff spellings) of Derry
« on: Friday 16 December 05 13:12 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information for the RODEN (spelled in different ways) who claimed to be from Derry on the 1851 Census.

I know that Catherine (wife) was a widow by 1851 but I also know that the father was called William from the marriage certificate of one of the children.

Does anyone have any clue about how I can find out more about them please?

Thanks   :)

~ Claire

Hello Claire,

What denomination were the Roden family?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
