All the old gang here I see. Thor I see you have met these reprobates - Saz (who appears to be a distant relative of mine. I suppose that probably explains things. I am a bit of a reprobate myself), Annie (who remembered her manners lol) and Pat Reid. You could not be in better hands. Three excellent searchers. Have a great Christmas guys. I am sure like myself you will be giving up some of your family time to check these boards. Thor does your user name mean, like myself, you have ancestors from Scandinavia? Annie welcomed you to RootsChat. I see you have posted 13 messages to date. I would have said, in fact I say now, welcome to the Irish boards of RootsChat. We may be unable to offer you a taste of Irish cuisine or some of our excellent Irish liquor, a pint of stout or if someone has a bottle tucked away somewhere some poteen, but we are able to offer great Irish hospitality from all parts of this island. Despite what you read in your papers from time to time we are not all stone throwers putting neighbours out of their homes. Most of us are great friends and get on exceptionally well with fellow Irishmen (I had better say "and women too") and with all mankind of whatever creed or colour.
Enough of the chat. Here is a site where you will find the surname Benson scattered throughout Ireland during the period of Griffiths Valuation of Ireland (1848 - 64). I know you will probably ask "What is Griffiths Valuation?" Well Thor I think there is a little introduction telling you about the Valuation at this address
consular.lagos@fco.gov.uk oops lol here is the correct address
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php A brief explanation about that mistake there. I have a friend travelling from Lagos to Ireland for Christmas. I received a message this morning and am expecting she may ask for a wee loan. I feel this way I may be able to protect myself in case I am being lured into a scam where I send money and hear no more from the person or persons to whom I may send the money.
All the best to everyone including those people who may not post on Irish threads but read them just for the crack.
Chris
