I may have talented ancestors
« on: Saturday 17 December 05 14:46 GMT (UK) »
:o  All of my ancestors so far have been your standard Ag Labourers, farmers etc.  Although I have thoroughly enjoyed delving into their lives, I have always hoped for something a bit more windswept and interesting.  Anyway, it's very early days but I may have found a family with some real talent!

My G G Grandmother was Emily Spode and I have only just begun to investigate her family as I have been too busy with other lines.  Anyway, she was born and lived in the same area as the famous Spode pottery factory and all the census material for her family keeps coming back with occ-potters or coo - pottery painter!  I know I shouldn't get my hopes up too high-but how exciting is that?????

I can't wait to get my certs back and to enroll on a pottery class to see if I have any hidden talents ;)

Hi Nessie, would you mind sending me the details of the 1901 - I'm half hoping it's not her as her married name should be Wheeldon.

I realy shouldn't get too excited as I haven't received the rest of my certs yet.  My hopes may be dashed against the potters wheel :D  Although I am defo about her name, age and place of birth.

Hi and thanks Nessie - yes it's the wrong one ;)  - her father was Daniel Spoad-although thanks again as any census material is a bonus in trying to link the family together-more potters!  So far I only have Daniel's family in 1851 after he died.

Many thanks again for your time and help

Wheeldon

I started from the opposite side! My G-granfather was a 'famous'  - modify that - well known, commercial photographer in Edinburgh. I logged on to a brilliant photography site a couple of years ago and his history was up there but short of quite a few facts. I thought ' I can do better than that!' and dug around the family for info  -  and thus was another budding genealogist created  Once I had a few facts I sent them off but couldn't stop digging and as I dug back I found.......   that mine too were humble tillers of the soil/shepherds/ag labs and various other agricultural experts. Only the few will find genius or even money in the family background  but didn't your rellies live in some delightfully named , obscure places some of which have disappeared off the maps altogether!!!

 :-\  :-\  :)  :)    :D
By the way   my 'famous' relly dissapeared off the map too because he only produced daughters. Some of his genes must have lived on as my sister was a professional photographer in the States before her death and my younger daughter is quite talented that way too and she didn't take it from me....!!

Don't give up. The one thing we appear to have in common is optimism

Just a hint about the Ag.Labs. who were all I ever found.

Then a contact guided me to another direct link in Notts. where my  GGgrandad was an AG Lab on Census ,But in the Landowners Returns (1873?) he had some acres and a large sum in Cash, and owned other businesses.
