GLASS FAMILY --Urquhart,Logie Wester

Have run into the usual brick wall tracing my direct descendant Finlay Glass.
I suspect it may be him on a 1861 Urquhart census under the name which looks a little more like Glais.
He originally married Christian Campbell in 1810(and had several children),then remarried Anne Gray in 1842.
I can find no Birth or Death records for Finlay(tried IGI & SP)
Would really appreciate any help

locations.
Still have not been able to find Birth or Death information,but hope to have some luck when we visit in May/June for a look around and some research

Just picking up on Joe's 1861 census entries. If this is your Finlay staying with his brother, then there is a possible christening entry for William, an actual extract from the OPRs on IGI (also one more sister showing):

To parents John GLASS and Katherine GRAY:

1. WILLIAM GLASS Christening: 30 JUN 1793 Urquhart And Logie Wester, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland
2. ISOBEL GLASS Christening: 19 JUN 1796 Urquhart And Logie Wester, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland

A possible marriage for this couple on IGI:

JOHN GLASS  Marriages: Spouse: KATHRINE GRAY    
Marriage:  24 FEB 1780  Urquhart And Logie Wester, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland

These are all the death entries coming up for Gl*s in R & C on SP. Looks like they are probably all brother and sisters, given the Gray for their mother's maiden name:

Confirmation of births/christenings from the OPRs on SP for some of the above death entries including one for Ann and the IGI entries for William and Isobel:

Be aware that there is another couple called John Glass and Margaret Gray who were also having children same time and place. The death entry for a Margaret in the post above, no.4, may relate to this entry on SP:

Thanks for all your info Monica 
I have now spent more on SP checking on a couple.
You have the correct marriage for John & Katherine and they had 6? children
Anne/Finlay/William/Isobel/Katharine/Margaret?
Glass Anne Gray/McKenzie was Findlays wife
I have death Cert for all except Anne/Finlay/Isobel.
Margaret is a puzzle still.As you say there is Margaret to a John Glass & Margaret
Gray,but I can find no record of a Marriage or other children to them.
On Margarets death Cert parents are listed as John Glass & Catherine Gray with William a witness.She is also listed as sister to William on the 1851 Census
I will keep hunting

Hi John

Just a couple of points. The death entry for an Ann. Have you viewed the entry:

1863   GLASS ANN GRAY/ MCKENZIE age 80    @ KNOCKBAIN/ROSS AND CROMARTY   FROS Ref: 073/00 0036   

This shows mother's maiden name as Gray. Unless this entry has been mistranscribed, Ann was either a Glass who married a McKenzie (or the other way round) whose mother's maiden name was Gray........so, if correct she could be the missing sister to your Finlay.

The original image for Finlay at his brother William's in 1861 would show whether he was a widower.

Similarly, the entry for an Isobel:

1883   GLASS   ISABELLA   age 87   @ ROSSKEEN/ROSS AND CROMARTY   GROS Ref: 081/00 0051   

It would appear from index that she was single as no other surname shows. It also doesn't show mother's name which is a pity (a fairly recent introduction by SP, not sure how far along this indexing has got). Just double checking that you are aware that Isobel and Isabella are all variants and easily interchangeable. So, she may be your missing Isobel.

.......as for Finlay, I cannot begin to think how he has been indexed. I've searched with minimum letters for him, F* *SS, and still nothing

Thanks for hanging in there 
I have not viewed your 1863 Ann entry as I can not get anything to come up on SP apart from my Ann Gray who Married Finlay,which I had.
She was born Abt 1806,Died 1886 aged 80 (her mother's maiden name was Mckenzie)
The 1883 Glass Isabella I viewed and it is a different family(father William etc)
The 1861 Census has William  s/ Finlay m/ Ann m
What are your thoughts on the Margaret side of things ?
