Michael Cannon/ Margaret Foy
« on: Monday 19 December 05 02:23 GMT (UK) »
My gggrandmother Catherine Cannon was born 3/4/1852 at Ford St. Liverpool. In 1861 census her parents in Ford St were Michael and Margaret Cannon (nee Foy) both born c1825 in Ireland. On 8/9/1873 she was 21 and married John Russell at Eldon St. in Liverpool. The marriage cert gives her father as Anthony Cannon, the birth cert gives her parents as Michael Cannon and Margaret Foy. They also had John in 1849, Thomas in 1856, and Margaret in 1857, all born Liverpool.  No record on Lancs BMD of marriage. They are not on the 1851 census.
Can anybody help with pre 1852, or if I am really pushing my luck, any info on Michael Cannon and Margaret Foy in Ireland?

Jim

Hi Heywood,
Yes that's them. Obviously the variation in surname is something I should  have looked for. There is no record of Michael and Margaret getting married in England so I assume they got married in Ireland somewhere around 1844 to 1848(son John born Liverpool 1849). Any ideas on how to find out? I've done IGI, Rootsweb, Ancestry Irish records, Free BMD, Freecen etc. but no luck.

Hi again- I saw that someone already found this for you in the Lancashire thread - at least you're a bit closer now.
Difficult for you - I looked at Griffiths Valuation but Cannon occurs in quite a few counties. I know that Chris who subscribes to these boards often suggests to cross check the two names to see if they occur in the same place.
http://www.failteromhat.com - has an index.
The problem is that the marriage would be too early for any records unless they were church records I suppose.
Sorry I can't help much - good luck
Heywood

Hi Heywood,
On the contrary, you've been a lot of help. Whereas before I was up against a brick wall, now you've given me a road to go down. I have other lines of my ancestors in Ireland so I can look for them at the same time.
Many thanks again
Jim
