1901 & 1911 Irish Census
« on: Friday 10 September 04 15:21 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have the 1911 Census for Ireland, if so I amlooking for a John Townrow (aged 41), wife Rebecca (aged 30). In 1911 John was in the Army and based in Dublin, he should be on the census somewhere.

As fot the 1901 census I doubt he is on it but would like it searching if that is possible.

I would be greatful for any help.

No, if I have read it right then the 1911 census was released early after the fire in 1922 destroyed other documents but the 1911 documents were held elsewhere.

Paul

That is the way I understand it.

The 1922 fire destroyed earlier census, so first the 1891 then the 1901 were released early, because they did not have earlier ones, and I understand the 1911 will be / or is to be released early

Hi,

The 1901 and 1911 census are available now in the National archives in Dublin. However they are not indexed so you need a close address or small parish i you are going to search for a name.

My dad does know the exact address, how do you think I would be able to get this information over the internet. It's a long way to travel from where I live.

Hi,

Dublin is/was a huge city. As there is no index to the census, you need at least an idea of the area before someone can trawl through the pages in the National Archives in Dublin. Try certificate entries which sometimes give the address.
