Hi Trevor

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you had a look at all the usual resources I tend to suggest?  ;)

The General Register Office of Ireland

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland

Irish Roots

The National Library of Ireland

Irish Genealogy

Genealogical Society of Ireland

Irish Ancestors

National Archives of Ireland

Perhaps you would like to have a look at these resources to see if there is anything that might help you.

Please come back with any further queries or to let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Ticker

Hiya Trevor,

Would William and Vivian be members of the Catholic or Protestant faith ???
Have you considered looking for a Kerr marrying a Taylor a generation previously and maybe a generation
prior to that also. It might be an idea to work on the assumption that the name was hyphenated mid 1800s.

All the Best, Chris

Thanks Ticker and Christopher

I tried most of them but I am new to this and it sure is hard to get info if you don't know what you are looking for. My great great grand father Richard Kerr (Sept 15,1869 at Dunoon Argyle Scotland)was christened Richard Taylor Kerr but had to take on the name Taylor to get the Clevery Estate, it cost him 100 pounds at the time, thats were the our Kerr-Taylor name came together. Audrey helped me so much from this chat group, I CAN'T THANK HER ENOUGH, she got me back to James Kerr from the Scotland 1841 census. It showed him as 45 at the time.  He was a farmer in Argyllshire Scotland.
I am at a stand still again but would have never even came close to the info that I have now without the help of Audrey and the other kind people from this chat group.
Thanks Trevor

Going through older posts and came across this one. By now you might have been able to find more information but if you haven't done so the following might be of interest.

The Bell family is shown here in 1911 census-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Sligo/Bricklieve/Graniamore/752868

The Kerr-Taylors are here in 1911 census-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Sligo/Lakeview/Cleavry/755397
And here in 1901 (wife should be Jessie not Lessie)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Sligo/Lakeview/Cleavry/1683298

Please let us know if you've found what you were looking for or if you still  need help finding any more information.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks aghadowey

The info on The Bell family confirmed a few more details in the 1901 census that i only had the info verbally
thanks
I checked in the 1901 census but they are not showing up
would you have any ideas why

On the Kerr-Taylor's
I am trying to find where they might be buried with no luck, I assume they would be buried somewhere around cleavry Sligo
There parish was Kilmalcallen

I ordered the death certificate on Mary millar Kerr from the GRO thinking it might indicate the grave yard but it only indicated place of death as Castlebaldwin
I tried to get John Kerr's death from GRO but they had no luck
I cannot find any info on where Richard Kerr -Taylor or his wife Jessie died
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Trevor

hi john here
just read your enquiry re Kerr- Taylor of Taunagh Riverstown.
While digging a Family grave in Taunagh over 30years ago two nameplates were unearthed one for Mary Kerr died 13/11/1919 aged 83 &
John Kerr died 10/8/1920
Both are buried in Taunagh Graveyard.
I have been working on the Taylor family tree for years.
I should have a copy of the old will which shows the Taylor to kerr-Taylor details

Hi,
I'm only getting started at the Kerr-Taylor side of my husbands family.  Richard & Jessie are his great grandparents.  Until today I couldn't go back any further, but then I found your posting here.  The whole name change is a fascinating story.
I got the details of Richard & Jessie's family from the 1911 census.  I remember his granny, Dorothy, talking about Cleavry and also her link to the Knox family.  I'd love to get more info going back from that.

Eunice

Mary Taylor married John Kerr
Mary was born in 1835 approx and died 13/11/1919
John was born in 1837 approx and died  10/08/1920
Both are buried in the old Church grounds of Taunagh Riverstown Co. Sligo.
Mary was daughter of Richard and Jane ( nee Millar) Taylor
Richard died 22/11/1882

Mary and John Kerr had a son called Richard who took on the name Kerr Taylor to benefit from the will of his Grandfather Richard Taylor.
Richard Kerr Taylor married Jessie Knox in1891.
