Anyone know about this occupation?
« on: Thursday 29 December 05 08:47 GMT (UK) »
I've just received my great-uncle's death certificate. He died of TB in 1924 in Hull. His occupation is given as Street Orderly.

Does anyone know what a street orderly was or what he did?

Thanks
Lesley

Well, that's made me smile anyway! I was thinking along the lines of hordes of rioting Hull residents being ordered about by my great-uncle . . . and wondering what the story behind it was. Thanks meles - I suspect you're right.

Hi Lesley

Yes meles is right - a Street Orderly was a Street Cleaner.

Best wishes
