« on: Thursday 29 December 05 23:43 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please look up the following family in the 1841 & 1851 census for Essex:-

Thomas Kent married Sarah Ruffell on 14/5/1813 in Wivenhoe. His occupation was mariner. They are known to have had the following children:- Sally (chr 1818), William (chr 1820), Jane Strand (chr 1823), Mary (chr unknown), Thomas Geoffrey (chr 1830), Mahala (chr 1833) and William (chr 1836 - so previous William must have died). All the children's christenings were performed at Wivenhoe.

I wonder if it is now possible for someone to look for Thomas and Sarah Kent in the 1861 and 1871 census, please? I believe Thomas may have died in 1877, so he should be found. He should not be confused with his son Thomas, who was also a mariner.

Regards,

Era.

If it is any assistance, I have loked up both census on my unpaid ancestry subscription (so I can not see any detail). Thomas and Sarah appear to be alive and well in both, but I need that extra detail to prove that it is them.

In 1861 - Thomas is at sea and recorded to have been born in Suffolk rather than Essex (recorded under Misc ships, at sea or abroad). I would like to know the ship he was on and roughly where it was at the time. Sarah is recorded in Essex for the same year, mostly likely at Wivenhoe. I would like to know where in Wivenhoe and if anyone is living with her.

Thomas is home for the 1871 census, as is Sarah, so I assume they are living together in Wivenhoe. I would like to know where in Wivenhoe and if anyone is living with them.

Cheers,
