The curse of the Thomas Rudkins  :D I have the same problem in my tree. Barrow on Soar, Quorn, Mountsorrel etc are all within a few miles of each other so nearly all of the Rudkins have a common origin. The furthest back I've got is Matthew Rudkin born 1615 and living in Barrow on Soar. All the later ones can be traced back to him.

Now the problems - Thomas seems to be the most common name in every generation. Your Thomas may (note may) be the son of Samuel and Ann Rudkin of Barrow. He may also be a cousin of the Samuel's son Thomas.

I'll do a more thorough check later but I hope that's helped.

The Irish Rudkins arrive in Ireland with the Crowellian resettlement in the 1650's.

I read somewhere that the original settler was Henry Rudkin buried in St. Lazerians church in Ireland. I don't know if he was from Leicestershire but it's a fair bet.

Actually if you enter Henry Rudkin and Ireland in Google you get a lot of hits and a lot of talk about the Irish Rudkins being landed gentry. There are whole family trees to look through!

Good luck

Now....where do I start???

I also believe that I am descended from Matthew Rudkin (d.1678).

I have a family tree from then until now although am not quite sure how accurate it is.

Would anyone like to swap their tree to see if we have anything in common - or anything that we can help each other with?

Did Matthew have a son called John (who married a Mary)? If so I believe that I am descended from him and then in turn his son Samuel.

If anyone can help or would like to talk further please get in touch.

Many best wishes

Alan
