1851 Census update 9 February 2006

***1851 Census update 9 February 2006***

We are currently compiling the index to the 1851 census on the test servers, and this will be made available to the User Group for testing as soon as possible. Following this, the index and images will be recreated on this live site ready for launch, planned, subject to acceptance tests, later this month.

They have also changed the availability to Feb 2006. (1841 March 2006)

To see the latest message it seems you have to log on. The 30 Dec message is on the home page, this one dated 9 Feb appears after log on.

On TalkingScot site - the user group members have not yet received the db to test - so looks like the end of February.

They do like to let everyone know that they know something that we mortals don't know      I just wait for the announcements from SP

The clues are in the eighth user group minutes ...

Re SP announcements ..... they announced the 1861 and I had already been searching it on their site for several days     ....   a good overall service but they really need to look at their communications with the public.

This is no doubt true given that it was 9th Feb before they advised that 1851 was delayed from January    .
SP does, however give much assistance to research in Scotland & the user group no doubt provide much needed  feedback and help.

Not there ......   just as well I don't believe in conspiracies.

Be that as it may, the hints that are coming from the User Group appear to indicate a possible March issue for the 1851 with a subsequent knock on delay for the 1841 index.
I just wish those in control at Scotlands People would learn from their previous mistakes and stop making promises which they are not in a position to keep and then (when things invariably go pear shaped) hiding away with no communication to the paying customers.
