Looks like a gremlin in the servers ... direct access fails but through a link on T.S. it works

Looks like mixed news on the 1851 census ... 13000 images of poor quality ..... guess where my lot will be hiding  ::)

SO WHERE IS THE 1851 SCOTTISH CENSUS?

First it was promised for January, then February and NOW it's March! I've lost anything vaguely resembling patience - my Pirie and Shepherd lines may depend on this! I hope!

I have this awful feeling that they've dropped it in the snow and we'll have to wait until the thaw sets in and the paper dries out! My guess would be August.

This is their latest notice

Please note that the maintenance scheduled for 1st March has now been completed. The site was successfully upgraded with a number of minor operational and administrative enhancements, including some changes necessary for the forthcoming implementation of the 1851 Census.

My guess would be 2006  -  but I could be wrong, based on previous estimates.

God, I hope it's 2006! You don't really think it could run into next year, do you?

The major problem will be the 13,000 pages which won't make it to the initial launch (whenever that is - personally I think April at the earliest). Although they have known about these difficult pages (blue ink on blue paper) nothing was apparently done about them and while the stated intentions are to add them to the main index there is no timescale at all for this to happen.

My understanding re the blue pages (that have been known about for such a long time) was that they had been indexed - it is simply that the scans will not be available for those pages because they are currently not readable

Do I have this incorrect Robert, your post seems to indicate they haven't even been indexed - Ahhhhh

I am going from comments made in the Talkingscots forum ...... It is claimed that there is some "confusion" over these blue on blue images and while they have been indexed this index will require to undergo human scrutiny because of the technical difficulties and there appears to be some doubt as to whether this "13000" will make it to the initial launch. I hope that this is just scaremongering and that everything goes well ..... but I suspect that  I know already where my relatives will be hiding  ::)
