Thanks Alli

My Gorton's are mainly from Uffington in Berkshire.  I do know that some Gortons lived in Highworth but have yet to make a connection between them and my lot.

Many thanks  Viv S

First can I say thank you lovely people and A Happy New Year to you all.
I think all are very relevant to my quest and con fusing all at the same time  :-\
Sheila yes I think its one of the same family thomas sharps B1771 Wanborough so makes him around 80 in 1881. I have got he had 3 children one child called Robert born 1811 who's had a son  thomas Francis born 1857.
Sarah sharps (1803)I am not to sure about it, what little reasearch I have managed , her maiden name may be sharps as well ( hope theres no insest in my family  :-\).

P.s I have only been a member less than 12 hours  :o :o :o
and I have all this  ;D ;D ;D

Hi,
Just stumbled onto this site and read about you looking for Sharps. I have read who you are looking for and they match my family of Sharps that I have been researching for the last year. Thomas Sharps( married Hannah Thorne) b 1771 in Wanbrough is my GGGG grandfather. I have quite a bit of info on the Sharps but not sure where you are in the tree.

Regards
Jo

::)Hi all, I went to South Marston Graveyard yesterday, and found the SHARPS grave stone.  Francis Thomas Sharps died Oct 5th 1925 aged 69.  also Sarah Jane Sharps, died July 6th 1938 aged 83, both in same grave, its a red marble surround against the West churchyard boundary wall about 100feet left from the Lych gate. It had a tallish pillar and urn at head but that is now lying flat on middle of surround.
There are no Sharps on my Poor Rate list 1843-1857 or on Tithe returns 1842.

Hi, I'm Laurence Sharps,  my father, Charles, was the eldest son of Frank Sharps born about 1879. I believe his family owned Church Farm in Marston and were related to the Reeves, Gortons  and Snookes.  One of my fathers brothers had  Gorton as one of his christian  names. As the only son of Charles and do not have any children I believe that I might be the last in the  direct line. Can anyone comment or add to this.?

Larry

Hi Laurence,
Frank's Grandfather was the brother of my direct ancestor. Henry Sharps born 1811 in Wanbrough, who is my Great, G,G,G grandfather. Some of the Sharps are buried in the Churchyard in South Marston.
