Died in WW2 but not on CWGC - any ideas?
« on: Sunday 01 January 06 13:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone and Happy New Year

I'm trying to help my Sister in law track down two of her mother's brothers.

Roy and Edwin Jeffrey were both killed in WW2 but I can find no trace of them on the CWGC site.  Although Sara's Mum was brought up by relatives and was much younger than her brothers she does remeber them and she is quite sure that they were both in the Air Force and were killed.

Do you have any ideas how I could track them down?

Would appreciate ANY ideas.

Thanks

Susan

Hello Susan,

There's a Roy JEFFERY on the CWGC. Just wondered if you'd seen that one.

Regards,
John

Hi John

Thanks for looking. I had seen that one and should have clearly ruled him out in my first posting - sorry.  Wrong parents.

Thanks for trying though.  This has really got me stumped.

Hi Susan,

I volunteer for the War Graves Memorial project, http://www.wargraves.org.uk/

I've searched their site and found the following

Edwin Jeffery
http://www.wargraves.org.uk/gravedetails.asp?id=163602
He was in the 1st/3rd Kent Field Coy. Royal Engineers.
Serivce Number: 939
Rank: Sapper
Buried at: Helles Memorial, Turkey.
Other details: Soldier lost at sea, 28 Oct 1915 aged 23, Son of George and Mary Jeffery of 96 Silverdale Road, Tumbridge Wells.

A photo of his grave can be requested.

There was no Roy Jeffery but there was a Royston Edward  and a Gilbert Roy?

Hope this helps
Love
