Orphanages in Wales

Hi,
Bit of a long shot, but can anyone help with info about orphanages in Wales towards the end of the nineteenth century ? Family lore says that one of the family was "brought up in an orphanage in Wales", tho' he married in Richmond, Surrey ! At the moment we don't know his date or place of birth, but have hopes from the ordered marriage cert !
