Looking for any confirmaton of my ggrandfather James Brodie(marr Elizabeth Bryce) being born on the Isle of Man abt 1866, son of James(occ-estate factor) and Agnes, nee Oliver - only lead so far seems incorrect.

Hi

Just curious when and where did James marry Elizabeth Bryce   and do you know when his father married Agnes Oliver?

I have no other info, I have not been able to find any record of marriage for either one. Son James Brodie was apparently a gardener and died abt 1948 Edinburgh, that I know from the death reg. That is where I got his parents names and occ. That's all I have.

Thank you Pam,

I have seen this info before ... just not sure of the dates though, because it would make James 13yrs older than what is recorded on the death reg. I am pretty certain that the James on the death reg is the one I am looking for as it has his son's name as witness and the address is about right according to my father. At some point James moved to Gosforth, Eng(my grandmother's birthplace) but I have not been able to find any records of that either. Any suggestions?

interesting that there was another Brodie family on the Island c. 1850 (use IGI) they were I think connected with Lighthouse on the Calf of Man  - I don't know how common the name is but Rushen and Arbory are adjacent parishes (see www.manxnotebook.com)
Seafield was one of the large houses in Santon
any thing with a Manx Connection

Thank you for your interest .... upon looking through the Manx Notebook I see that Seafield is now called Arragon House. How does one contact this establishment to inquire if there are any archival records? James(William?) Brodie my gggrandfather may have been a gardener/estate factor in the mid 1800's
