Temporary closures of both WCSL & DRO
« on: Wednesday 04 January 06 23:55 GMT (UK) »
Further to my message the other day about the closure of the WCSL in Exeter from Monday 9 January - Saturday 11 February- this also means that the Record Office service point in the old record office will be closed as well.

Now to add to this problem is another one:-
The new Devon Record Office at Great Moor House, Bittern Road, Sowton, Exeter  will be closed from Monday 6 Feb  to Friday 17 Feb

From Mon 6 Feb to Fri 10 Feb, North Devon Record Office at Barnstaple is
still making microfiche of filmed parish registers, censuses for North
Devon etc., available even though they will not be producing any
original documents held there, as they are also closed for stocktaking

So folks as you will see there is a week, Monday 6th Feb until Friday 10 th Feb, when none of the Exeter offices and the North Devon office will be closed ,if any of you are planning a trip to Exeter for either the WCSL or the DRO- please note the above dates so that you do not have a wasted trip

The Plymouth and West Devon Record Office at Plymouth, which will be open during its normal hours and they have the same microfiche of filmed parish registers as Exeter. The service points around the county which hold microfiche of their own area
(like the one at Torquay Library) will be operating as they normally do
at this time of year.

HOWEVER one good piece of news:-
The Record Office at Great Moor House in Exeter have  organised a Family History Day for the first Wednesday of the closure period - 8 Feb - which will operate like a record office open day.  It is planned to coincide with Archives Awareness activities
around the country and also the end of the BBC Who Do You Think You Are?
Series.  Our website has a bit of information about the day - at webpage
