Hi Anne

Have you had a look at all the usual resources I tend to suggest?  ;)

The General Register Office of Ireland

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland

Irish Roots

The National Library of Ireland

Irish Genealogy

Genealogical Society of Ireland

Irish Ancestors

National Archives of Ireland

Perhaps you would like to have a look at these resources to see if there is anything that might help you.

Please come back with any further queries or to let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Hello Anne,

I have had a look at http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm which is based on Griffiths Valuations of Ireland 1848 - 64. That period is close enough to the 1820s for there to be little change in the distribution of surnames. Lets have a look at the combinations of surnames on your list.

1. Edgar / Davidson. These two surnames are shown as being predominately  in the north of Ireland although they did appear in Cork City. I would say you are safe enough to forget Cork City.

2. Bell / Grey. More northern names although Dublin City, Leitrim and Mayo are on the list.
Again I would suggest starting the search in the north of Ireland.

3. Cuthbert / Harvey. This is slightly more difficult as you have three northern counties as well as Cork, Dublin and Wexford. I feel, unless you have information to the contrary, that you would be safe enough researching in the north of Ireland too.

The last names on the list are also in the north .. Crumlish is mentioned five times in Co. Donegal and once in Tyrone. Although Crawford is a name appearing throughout Ireland since most of your research will probably be in the northern counties then work on the assumption that the Crawfords were also in the north.

I hope this is of some assistance to you.

Best Wishes, Chris
