Bootle Church records for this era are in a poor state, but before they were sent to the archives at Whitehaven they were scanned and copied to CD by ARCHIVE CDBOOKS. The church have a copy of the CDs, and I had a quick look at the records between 1745 and 1755. I could not find any mention of either BANKS or CARTER.

Hi Edward, many thanks for looking, I guess the search goes on.
By the way, are there any Gil(l)banks' in there,  as they used both names
at times, sometimes simultaneously? again, many thanks. Jim.
