Thomas BROWN Barbara INNES
« on: Tuesday 10 January 06 09:52 GMT (UK) »
Thomas BROWN and Barbara INNES were married on the 21 Jan. 1855 at Mains & Strathmartine, Angus.  In 1881 they were living at Emmock Farm House, Mains, Forfar.
I'm curious about the name Emmock.  Can anyone shed any light on the name?  And would the farm still be in existance today?

Emmock still exists. It is named on the Ordnance Survey map - if you go to www.streetmap.co.uk and search for it you'll see it there, a few miles north of Dundee.

As for what it means, I don't know. You could try the Scottish Place Names Society (http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/institutes/sassi/spns/index.htm)

Thank you Forfarian, wonderful.  I have located it on the map.  :)  Also spotted Burnside, which my g.g.grandfather named his farm in Vic. Australia.  Now I need to find the connection between the two.
