William Lomas - 2 or even 3 different birthplaces...
« on: Tuesday 10 January 06 19:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
I'm trying to trace a William Lomas. On 1901 Census (Newmarket), his birthplace is Muchley, Shropshire, abt.1860. On 1891 Census (Bucks), it's Wolverhampton... quite close on my AA road Atlas. I have a possible sighting of him in 1881, before his marriage - looks like a likely candidate, similar job etc... - but on that one, his birthplace is Kemberton.

Searches for his birth don't point to anything conclusive.

Does anyone know the area, or the history, well enough to shed some light ?  I've ordered the marriage cert to pin him down, but in the meantime, any help would be really appreciated.
TIA
Mark

Hi,
I have jusy started to search my family tree.
My Grandfather was a William Lomas.
In 1891 he was a farmer at Eardington Shropshire
In 1881 he was at Mose Farm,Parsh of Quatt Shropshire
1871 Brewood

In the 1851 Census  I found three William Lomas
in one household in Bradley Staffordshire.

All of these Williams have been farmers.

Any help?

Hi there
Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I've been busy moving back to the UK since I posted, and my family history file is in deep storage. But as far as I remember, after I posted my original question, I got the Marriage Cert, and William's father turned out to be a Samuel Lomas, collier, Shropshire, but then I couldn't trace Samuel's birth.
If it's any help to you, my William moved to Newmarket and married a Julia Pryke, but without my file, I can't give any dates.
Good luck with your own search.
Best Wishes
Mark
