lydia clarkson & Andover Union Workhouse 1865 please
« on: Tuesday 10 January 06 21:03 GMT (UK) »
I would be grateful for assistance in establishing a prime source link.
In order to identify and flesh out my maternal ancestor LYDIA CLARKSONs early history I need to locate her home/birth village.
I have a birth certificate for Annie Louisa Willis Clarkson dated 11 July 1865.
She was born to Lydia Clarkson in the Andover Union
Workhouse but there are no other details.
The next source is the 1871 census where she is stated to be 26,born Hampshire, married [now GRACE] with her husband and children Annie and Kate
Between 1871 and 1881 Lydia died although the only GRO reference I can find is that of a Lydia Lizzy Grace in Andover in March 1875
Thank You
sid

Hi sid,

Looks like it was Faccombe up near the Wiltshire border.  Both 1851 and 1861 census list her there.

Hi Nell
Thank you for your response .
The IGI also lists a similar name at Faccombe around that time but I could not be sure it was the same person and did not wish to prejudice any investigation of the workhouse records by so stating

Hi Ffortune
Thank you very much for your Harris information and offer.
This would be very welcome as I only have the bare 51 & 61 census information , the Harris/ Clarkson marriage witnesses plus the Harris member staying wth the Grace family in Tilehurst later - no relationships.

Like you I have a 3-4 X Gt grandparent relationship but through Clarkson/Harris side

Are you aware of any pre marriage information on the Clarksons .?
Superficially Henry appears disowned after marying Lydia and after her death, which I have mostly recorded, spent his life as a hawker.[are you interested ?]

I look forward to hearing from you
Regards
sid

Hi Sid
I would be interested in knowing why the Clarksons felt the need to disown Henry for marrying Lydia. It was probably money & social status as the Harris family were just farm labourers in Faccombe which is an estate village.
My data is an excel file is there anyway to send it to you? I am new to this list & not sure if I am allowed to give you my email address?
