Great stuff Goggy,
I was worried that you may have given the job away. But like a champ you are still with us.
I have just been out for dinner and a few bevies so I wont do much tonight, however we are going to need bigger images  lets say about 900 wide.
Just keep a weather eye and I shall be back tommorow.

Hi Goggy,
Had a look again this morning, I had been thinking that you were scanning one at a time so what we have now is one scan of four photo's - this means we dont have sufficient detail. Now if you can do the same but one photo ata time - then resize the longest size to around 300pixels/dots it should be the a good size.
One other thing, the pictures are quite indistinct, did you by any chance scan them in a sleeve or some sort of protective cover - if so you will need to remove that also.
                                                    Denn

p.s.      I know it's slow but we are getting there bit by bit.

First things first, it,s Sunday evening so go ahead and have a bevvy - I can't, I have to drive.
Okay the glare is something we'll have to put up with - maybe the larger scans will help, as you have seen even the worst can be improved a little when some of these guys get going.

What size are the original prints?

Scan each one at 600dpi and then we'll go through the file resizing again if necessary.

G'Day Denn, original sizes roughly 55mmx50,some have been torn,as you can see,(a long story!)but that would be about the general size.
Doc's order's.no alcohol! Now, if I can stop smoking!!!
What about photo copy paper?Any better?

Goggy,
I had thought that may be the size - very common size in the 50s, I have heaps of them. From what I can see the tears are not going to be a huge problem. The very best we can hope for is to increase the size a little.
As for photo copy paper - forget it altogether. When we get a result it should be done on either photo paper or  high resolution paper - but we shall worry about that later.
What I would like you to do is try just one first, and scan it at 600dots per inch, if your scanner gives you a choice of greyscale or rgb choose rgb.  After scanning save it to your desktop and let me know the size in kb.
