More Gibbons from Mayo
« on: Thursday 12 January 06 16:22 GMT (UK) »
I have just found out (via the 1891 census) that the Patrick and Mary Gibbons I have been trying to trace came originally from Mayo.

I don't have a town though, only the info that they were born C1817 & C1820 respectively in Ireland and had their first child Mary born 1844 in Ireland and my great great grandfather John in 1853 in Macclesfield, Cheshrie.

They were Catholic, is there any way to trace them over there?

Many thanks
Hodkinson, Gibbons, Dean, Bromfield, Bell,Lancaster, Matthews, Nadin/Naden, Cowdock, Bay, Ruffet/Rufet/Ruffit, Brannock/Brannick

Hiya Shesmiff,

You may have to look at Griffiths Valuation for Co. Mayo which took place in the County 1856-7 and work back from that date. Whilst the family were Catholics it is possible their records will appear in those of the Established Church (Anglican / Church of Ireland) http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php

All the Best, Chris
