I wonder if he wrote down "Haseley" and then couldn't read his own writing when it came to transcribing?  Theres a Great and Little Haseley not far to the  east-south-east of Cuddesdon in Oxfordshire...

Thanks Prue,
It's tantalizing as it is so close to Cuddesdon ........ I guess my best bet now is to get into the Oxon mob and see if anyone has the parish registers ....... any thoughts on this approach?
