Kelshall Parish Records
« on: Sunday 15 January 06 00:56 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone out there any access to the Parish records for Kelshall please.  I am looking for a baptism for a James Gibbons Chapman who we think was baptised about October 1852.

Hi Trish,

The baptism is recorded in Kelshall PRs as 3 October 1852.  James Gibbons Chapman  son of Samuel and Charlotte. Abode London  Occ.Porter.

Interestingly there were two other baptisms on the same day  -  George and William Cutts, sons of Edward and Mary Anne Cutts of London  a Carman.

Strange to have two families from London with baptisms in a country parish in Herts.  Were the families related?  Over to you!.

Thank you for that information.  Interestingly we now know that Charlotte died on 25th February 1851 and that James is living in Kelshall in 1861 with his grandparents but we cannot find out where Samuel is.

Do not know of any connection between Chapman and Cutts but then again we are learning more about the family all the time.

Hi Trish,

From the baptism of James Gibbons it would appear that Samuel was living in London hence his absence from the Kelshall census details for 1851.  JG records his birthplace as London on the 1881 census.

However I have found Samuel on the 1841 at Kelshall, living with his grandmother next door but one to his parents.  Details available if you need them.

Details would be very gratefully received on the 1841 census.  Thankyou so much for your time.  Could you possibly post details of all Chapmans in Kelshall.  It is a very small village but the Chapmans seem to be a very large family!!!!!!
