Hi Dave

George William PITTEN was registered in Cardiff in Dec q 1871 (11a/227).  The cert would give his mother's maiden name.

There is a marriage in Cardiff in Mar q 1892 (11a/499) with George PITTEN and Beatrice PARTRIDGE on the same page.

I hope this helps,

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Dear Arranroots

Many, many thanks again!
On the answer of George and Beatrice married in the March quarter 1892 11a/499. Is Beatrice maidname Partridge?
Partridge is a big name in Devon I believe.

Question: Can a person lie to the register?
My gran Gwendoline Margaret Pitten was born 10th June1898 (I have a copy of her birth cert.)
She married my grandad Walter Thomas Walters born 5th Sept. 1888 (I have a copy of his birth cert).
They married was 7th Noverber 1914, at Roath parish church, Cardiff (I have a copy of that cert).
Making walter 25 and Gwendoline 16, yet it reads age 19.
She was a bit of a lass as a grandmother, doing the solo singing spot with a walking frame.
A wondering grandson

David

Hi David  :)

The marriage "page" has 4 names and 2 of them are George and Beatrice.  It seems highly likely, with both names being quite uncommon, that these are your forebears and yes, Beatrice's maiden name would hence be PARTRIDGE.  The only way to be absolutely sure is to buy the cert or see the original register.

Regarding grandma's age: again we can't be sure, but I believe she would have had to have parental permission to marry if she were under 18 (it might be 21, I would have to check, but other Rootschatters will be better informed!)  Is there any indication of whether her parents gave permission?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
