Annette

I'm not sure if he is the right one, when I thought about it again he could have been born from 1790-1800 as he married in 1816. His wife was transported in 1833 so I expect that he may have married again, also I wonder if you would go from being a plasterer to a shoemaker?

Thanks for looking

The index for the Barony Parish has a 50 yr old William Rae living with a family in the North East District.

Wiiliam aged 50
Margaret aged 40
James aged 11
John aged 9
Mathew aged 1

Unfortunately neither index gives occupations

Falkyrn

The first William looks like he may be living with brother and sister and the other one is also a possibility.  Do you know where the areas are in relation to Gallowgate? I have no idea about the locations.

The marriage I have for William Rae and Elizabeth Dickson is 27 Oct 1816 in Glasgow, Lanark. Are parish records easy to get?

Thanks very much for finding these for me.

Brownfield is closest to the Gallowgate ..... the Barony North eastern District is in the north of the current city boundaries and quite a bit away.

The surviving OPR's are with Records office in Edinburgh and transcripts are available on the pay site Scotlands People .....

Do not expect too much from OPR banns & marriages records. The amount of information recorded can be variable and most entries contain very little detail. At best, you may find the following: date(s) of the proclamation of intended marriage and/or date of marriage, names of bride and groom and their parish of residence, sometimes the occupation of the groom and occasionally the name of the bride's father. At worst, you may only find the names of the bride and groom recorded along with the fee paid in caution.
..... is what they say about the OPR's
