family history centre-----question
« on: Tuesday 17 January 06 14:08 GMT (UK) »
can any one tell me whether it would be possible to order any census for londonderry,  at a family history centre ? there is a Latter Day Saints history centre fairly near by, but i have never used it yet, as my research time is based around caring for 2 babies.
i am interested in locating McGavigan  / McGaffigan families on the 1901 / 1911 census in Londonderry so that I might be able to get further back in my research

Any advice gratefully recieved

thanks

Gill:
You sure can! I am sure the people at the centre will help you determine the film number and you can order it right there. When it comes they will let you know and it will be available for you to review for 3 weeks. You do need to know where they lived though.

have just phoned the nearest FHC (20 miles from me ----not far, but my travel and research time is limited to few hours here and there).

they said there are quite a  few census'  for Derry, therefor i need to know which district I require census for.
I have a death cert for 1913 at 40 ferguson Street, Derry, which the death is registered in waterside District. Am i correct to believe this is Templemore parish.

i would also like to look at 1901 census for the family residing in Orchard row, Derry. Is this also in thwe Waterside, and parish of Templemore?

at present time i am lookinh at their website to try to locate a reference number, but cant find it.........  the above link is not working

thanks

many thanks Pat.
I am hoping to go up to the FHC tommorrow night to fill the forms for ordering the census, apparently i need to be there  in person to order it, rather than ordering over the phone.
i am quite excited now at the prospect of finally breaking down those brick walls   ;D

thanks again
