Jones/Robling Family
« on: Wednesday 18 January 06 08:11 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on David Thomas Robling who was born in Wales around 1848 and immigrated to the U.S around 1868.  I believe he was from Glamorgan.  Also, his wife's name was Tabitha Jones.  Supposedly, her father's name was "Cadughan Jones" and he owned a pub in Wales.  Many blessings and thanks for the help.

Hi,
I've looked at the 1851 census for Wales and found the following which could be the family you are looking for.

Merthyr Tydfil, Gellydeg,
2, Rhydlan.
William Robling, H, M, 36, Ironstone miner.
Sarah Robling, W, M, 36.
William Robling, S, U, 13, Haulier.
James Robling, S, U, 7.
David Robling, S, U, 5.
George Robling, S, U, 3.
Sarah Robling, D, U, 1.
(All born in Merthyr.)
HO 107/1458

I also found on the "FreeBMD" site, a marriage.
March quarter of 1868 in Llanelly. Marriage of David Robling to Tabitha Jones.

Hope they are yours.

Martin's of Maerdy/Tonyrefail
Thomas's of Llanddeusant/Porth.
Williams of Llanharan/Porth

Thank you very much.. that has to be the family and is most certainly the marriage.  I believe they were married before they immigrated.   I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Hello Maureen
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works,
If the family was the  David  and Tabitha  Roblin   on
LDS 1881 living in Llanelly Carmarthenshire  then the following may be a better fit.

1851 Glamorgan
HO 107 2462  F371  P1 ED 4d

Michaelstone Super Avon
1 Woodland Row

David Roblin  h m 28   Great? (Grais)wood PEM
Maria Roblin w m  36 Dinas PEM
Hannah Roblin d u 9 Michaelstone S A GLAM
Thomas Roblin s u 7     "              "
John Roblin  s u 5         "              "
David Roblin s u 3         "              "
William Roblin s u 9m    "              "

David senior was an Iron finer man

Cwmavon  which was David juniors place of birth in
the 1881 census was in ED 4d  of Michaestone S A
in 1851.

The only Tabitha Jones born  c1850  in Llanelly(as per the 1881 census) in the 1851 census  had a father named Thomas.

Purchase of the marriage cert  should  provide the names and occupations of the  couples fathers
If you think this is the correct couple and need  further census details let me know.

Hi Rhys,
Not wishing to argue with you, but, according to Maureen the family emmigrated in 1868, so the 1881 census does not apply.

Hi Big-Al and Maureen

The 1900 US census for PA has David and Tabitha arriving in the states in 1868.   Their children seem to be born in Wales up to the mid 1880`s  and arrive in the states after
1891. The 1891 UK census has the whole family still in the UK . This family corresponds with the one i quoted  in 1881 . Could well be that the parents came back to Wales before 1871 since they are in Wales for the  1871 census.

Interesting exchange of messages on this. I have David and Tabitha in my family tree.

Rhys's analysis is, I believe, correct in that David and Tabitha and their children were living in Llanelli in the 1881 census and David's place of birth is Cwmavon. This links him to my tree in that his brother Thomas was my great grandfather.

I wasnt aware that the family moved to the States but it may well explain some of the family history, as there appears to be gaps in the Roblins in the UK.

I woudl be interested to hear of American Mutts connection to the Roblin family
