Hi what you really need is if someone can check the QSA and KSA medal rolls for the Boer war, then you will know for sure if he was there, i don't have them, sorry.

Its the Queens and Kings South africa medals, there is someone on rootschat that has access, i can't remember who tho!!

But i  think it is worth posting a lookup request on this board, it may take a while but i am sure someone will reply.

Yes i know what you mean, i already have the officers died roll and have actually just bid fo the foot guards QSA cd on Ebay, don't you go gazumpimg me now

I will check everything out which you have given to me, have to admit, didn't know what QSA or KSA meant though  but now I do

I did zoom in on the medal paper, but it got blurred the more I zoomed in, so I printed it off and had a look through my magnifying glass, but am still not sure what it means, but I have thankfully recognised his army number, which is quite clear.

Question, how do I post it to you, for you to take a look

gill,when the war started,your g/father was in the RAMC,army No709,then he transferred to the dorset regt army No40671,this number looks like one issued to a 1916 reinforcement,he was in the 5th battalion dorsetshires,the RAMC number looks like pre war,mack

Don't know if I replied to you or not, but I have been on Liverpool Annies site, and it only covers the 1st battalion - will have to wait until more is on.

I have also posted a request look up for Q and K South Africa medals, as you suggest.

I just wish I could find him on the 1901 census.

At the moment I feel this is as far as I can go, or any of you for that matter, but thanks for all your help
